5th Grade Curriculum Share

Fifth graders acted as docents and showed projects and other displays of their work to parents during the curriculum celebration this morning. The event provided a glimpse into students’ learning and growth in reading and writing, social studies, Spanish, math, and dance.

Beginning in the theater, Brian and Cordenia’s class showed off their very own creative movement original choreography in the Cloth Dance and then April and Justin’s class performed The Big Apple dance with influence from the Charleston, rooted in the dance structure of the Ashanti people of Africa, and the Virginia Reel.

A few of the projects on display included written responses, board games, and a craft activity corresponding to the novels and short stories 5th graders read. Artistic timelines hung on the walls as students shared their writing portfolios filled with personal narratives, informational writing, and memoirs. A large three-dimensional fractal was on display exhibiting students understanding of the similarity of polygons.

Finally, for Spanish, each student prepared an augmented reality experience for their parents highlighting the students' speaking skills and mastery of vocabulary and grammatical concepts, such as likes and dislikes, personality traits, and conjugating verbs.
