Head of School
Donna S. Lindner
Donna Lindner is a nationally respected leader, educator, and mentor with over 25 years of experience. As Head of School at Lowell, she is known for her unwavering commitment to placing children at the center of all she does. Every year at the 8th-grade graduation, she reminds students, "Lowell is your home, and you can always come home."
Our People
Our teachers and our staff are part of a 60-year tradition of educational excellence, founded on the idea that with experience comes knowledge, and with knowledge comes responsibility. They think about now; they think about centuries from now; and they think about how it can all get better and better.
Our Campus
Lowell is located on eight acres in Northwest Washington, DC, just off 16th Street near Rock Creek Park. Our tree-filled campus, multiple libraries, art studios, and science labs, along with our indoor pool, gym, and playgrounds, make Lowell an ideal educational setting for children of all ages.
Our History
Over the last six decades, we have expanded from a single nursery school class of 25 in the basement of a local church to a program serving over 300 students from two-and-a-half to 8th grade, housed on a beautiful 8-acre campus.
Why Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Is Central to Everything We Do
Anchored in our history and mission, we believe that the foundations of advocacy begin in childhood and early adolescence. Established in 1965, just one year after Congress passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Lowell's founders established this institution to disrupt the existing norms and "wanted the school to be as inclusive and heterogeneous as possible." Six decades later, these values remain a priority at Lowell, and we recognize that diversity in all its forms is vital to an educational experience and working towards building a stronger, more compassionate society.
