4th Grade Geometry

Fourth graders flex their geometry skills today in a lesson that challenged them to calculate the area of a shape and find its symmetrical axis. Teacher Adam Shepherd invited students to the whiteboard to draw a line of symmetry, if possible, and talk through their process in calculating the area of the shape. It was easy for 4th graders to calculate area with evenly drawn shapes on the grid as opposed to shapes that included half squares on either side which engaged students' visual and spatial capabilities.
