Building with blocks is much more than it appears for children in Pre-Primary. When projects begin to take shape, teachers guide students in narrowing down their ideas and planning step-by-step. Children collaborate and discuss what they want to create. Sometimes, these discussions lead to collaboration as children negotiate how to build and connect their structures. These projects get taller and grow alongside the students. As the structures get higher and higher, more complex problem solving occurs such as testing for stability and choosing blocks that will provide solid support. Finally, when the structures are finished, children step into imaginary role play making the block area come alive with transportation hubs, factories, police stations, and more!
