Basketball Season Highlights

There were many lessons on and off the court for this year’s basketball teams. With displays of passion and determination, each player made noteworthy contributions to a memorable season.

Boys Basketball
The Middle School All Stars finished their season with 11 wins—a new record for Lowell. The victory in the Burke Tournament was unforgettable, particularly the amazing win over Sheridan to claim the tournament title—a true turning point for the program. The Middle School Superstars finished their season with a two-point win over Siena, in what Coach Doug Nowlin referred to as “by far the best game of the season.” In just their second season, the Superstars won three games and fought many close battles in the Lowell Dome. The 4/5 Boys finished their season strong with a nail-biting game against JPDS that remained tied up until the final 30 seconds. It was a complete team effort. Players grabbed multiple rebounds, made a ton of steals, and played vicious defense. Right before the buzzer sounded, Dylan T lined up his shot and made the basket for a final score of Lowell 10, JPDS 8.

Girls Basketball
The girls basketball teams also made Lowell history with the 4/5 Girls’ first-ever win against JPDS. Despite losses in the beginning of the season, the players never gave up; they remained confident and determined to play at their best. Their efforts finally came together for a 12-8 win over JPDS, ending their season victoriously. The Middle School Girls team improved drastically from the 2015 season. Seventh graders, Elka and Brooke, stepped up and gladly assumed the leadership of the young team comprised primarily of 6th graders. With two main goals for this season, clear communication and the full-court press, the team focused on exhausting their opponents by relentlessly trapping them. With this strategy, they earned a 5-4 record this year: it was their best season yet.

Keys to Success
As a shooter, defender, or ball handler, each player truly added an essential piece to the puzzle. The successes of this season prove that hard work, dedication, and teamwork are the essential tools to winning on and off the court
