Though the 2020 People of Color Conference (PoCC), hosted by the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS), is virtual this year, its lineup of speakers, masterclasses, equity seminars, and workshops is impressive.
This year’s conference—“New Decades, New Destinies: Challenging Self, Changing Systems, Choosing Justice”—will feature inspirational speakers such as Eddie S. Glaude Jr., chair of Princeton’s Department of African American Studies, who is known for his books on the complexities of black communities, religion, and philosophy; education researcher and Athletic Association Endowed Professor at the University of Georgia Dr. Bettina L. Love, who co-founded the Abolitionist Teaching Network (ATN); and Helen Zia, an activist, author, and former journalist whose work includes speaking out for human rights, peace, and women’s rights. Click here for a full list of speakers, including this year’s Social Justice Summit: Waking Up NAIS Schools.
Middle School division director, Kavan Yee, will return as a facilitator for the Asian Pacific Islander (AAPI) affinity group, hosting over 500 AAPI educators from around the world. In addition to attending the conference, Academic Technologist Chanel Malik will serve as a conference tech assistant and consultant, lending her expertise in delivering information and resources seamlessly in a virtual space.
Stay tuned to hear more when Lowell’s attendees return!
