This week, students in the Adventurers room explored characteristics of their identity by creating Venn diagrams with a partner. The diagrams served as visual representations of children’s similarities and differences. To develop the diagrams, Pre-Primary Teacher Iris Vargas interviewed pairs of children using the same set of questions. As the questions were asked, students perked up when recognizing similarities and differences between them.
Each child’s photograph corresponded with the side of the diagram that belonged to them. These were filled with statements highlighting unique characteristics. The area where the circles converged was filled with similarities the pair shared. During morning meeting, each pair stood up to share their Venn diagram with the class. “We’re both five,” “we both live in a house,” said one pair of students as they shared their similarities. Children also shared differences such as the types of pets, eye colors, and numbers of siblings.
