Rising 3rd-6th Grade

6th graders are special! While some rising 6th graders are ready to jump into Middle School, others prefer one last summer with the comfort and familiarity of Primary School friends and programming. Please consider your student’s preference and development needs when choosing between session-long Fabulous Friends or à la carte Tweens and Teens programs.

Classes and Pricing

List of 8 items.

  • Fabulous Friends (Sessions 1 and 2)

Fabulous Friends honing in on favorites among their range of interests. These campers haven’t tried everything, but they have serious opinions about what they like. We have created a range of developmentally appropriate courses that challenge them to stretch themselves. Campers choose two classes that will comprise their morning schedule for the entire three-week session. In the afternoon, they choose daily from new selections—such as organized sports, arts and crafts, informal performances, and so much more—to ensure variety.

    First-Period Choices (8–10 am)
    • Awesome Authors: This course is all about literacy! Campers will read books, write stories, and work on their own e-books. Using a digital program, campers can write, illustrate, and even record their own audio for original stories. It’s the perfect way to have tons of fun with reading, writing, and honing literacy skills.
    • Codemaster: Campers learn the fundamentals of computer science, computer safety, sequences, loops, events, programming, front-end development, HTML, and CSS.
    • Cooking Craze: Eat the Olympics! This edition of Kitchen Craze will sample foods from various countries participating in the 2024 Olympics. Join us as we traverse the globe, creating medal-worthy cuisine from all over the world. We do not recommend this course to campers with food allergies.
    • Exploratorium
    • Intro to Pickleball
    • I Spy Art: Who says art has to be in a studio? Campers will bring materials and supplies outdoors, canvassing our entire 8-acre campus for artistic inspiration. Experimenting with different mediums will take on new life as campers “spy” unique muses on nature walks and other forays around campus.
    • Lowell School News: Campers act as roving reporters to bring you the story firsthand each week. Fashion Week, Rock, Paper, Scissors All-Star Week—you name it, these reporters will be live on the scene!
    • Plant Champs: This program is a basic intro to various aspects of gardening, nurturing plant life, the role of bugs, and the role of greenery in urban spaces. Campers will maintain a nursery to care for plant and garden life on campus, and grow plants to love and nurture forever at home. Thumbs of all colors are welcome!
    • Sports Team Edition: Campers participate in inclusive group games like tag, capture the flag, soccer, basketball, and baseball to build confidence, athletic skills, and friendships. New games will be created, and old favorites will be on standby.
    • Biking on Beach: Campers will learn the basics of safe biking and increase their confidence on two wheels in the company of friends. The Lowell bus will transport campers to Beach Drive for safe riding and basic skill-building with caring counselors. Campers should bring their own bikes, helmets, and safety pads.

    Second-Period Choices (10:30 am–12 pm)
    • Camp Detective: In this camp-wide whodunnit game, there are only two kinds of people: sleuths and suspects. So, if your camper is the next Nancy Drew, then this is the perfect group for them! Campers will snoop, and work together to solve a major camp mystery.
    • Cooking Craze: Campers focus on snack foods while learning cooking basics, kitchen safety, and nutrition knowledge are the ingredients for fun and yum. We do not recommend this course to campers with food allergies.
    • Critter Care: Campers learn to care for small critters such as frogs, hamsters, hermit crabs, and more while creating a maze for the mice, having a race with the turtles, and trying their hands at animal training! Special animal visitors will round out this experience.
    • Dance Around the World: Campers will have fun learning about and trying traditional dance genres from all over the world. Whether music originates from the drum, maracas, ukelele, or pipes, campers will look at music as ways to celebrate, entertain, or honor ethnicity. Campers will help create a weekly dance routine for a performance every Friday.
    • Game Design: Campers develop their critical thinking skills while designing games using Stencyl’s user-friendly drag-and-drop coding software. They learn Scratch coding language and program every aspect of their game while learning the basics of object-oriented programming.
    • Keep it Krafty: Campers go beyond basic cutting and pasting and get their hands dirty in longer-term, more complex crafts. Creative expression, time with friends, and fun projects will get the imagination going and result in countless take-home treasures.
    • Number Ninjas: Math friends and foes are welcome to join this class for mind-bending fun. Through strategy games, puzzles, skills, and drills, campers will hone existing skills and broaden general math ability and comfort with numbers. This mind gym will require campers to stretch their thinking and use their skills in fun team math challenges.
    • Soccer: This is serious fun and serious soccer! Soccer has been a staple at Lowell’s camp for eons! The Front Field is akin to World Cup turf when counselors and campers get hold of a soccer ball. It’s all in good fun and great sportsmanship!
    • Sports Skating Edition: Bring your own traditional roller skates or inline skates and roll and bounce to the beat while getting exercise indoors. Campers should bring their own skates, helmets, and knee pads.
