Swim Lessons

Instruction Follows USA Swimming Fundamentals

Course descriptions are intended to help parents select the appropriate level for their children. The instructor will assess each swimmer on the first day of each session to ensure that they are in the best class for their skill set. If the instructor feels that a change is necessary, every effort will be made to meet scheduling needs. However, classes frequently fill, and space may not be available in another class. Please make every effort to register at the appropriate level.

Adults may enroll in private and semi-private lessons. Swimmers must be at least 3 years of age and be toilet trained to register for classes or private lessons. Swimmers will not be allowed to swim in either swim diapers or "rubber bottoms".  Thank you for your understanding and consideration as this potentially can affect other swimmers and classes.

Swim Class Descriptions

Note: Parents are not allowed in pool with children during lessons.

Intro/Beginners (Level 1): $130/Six Week Session
Tadpole students learn to safely enjoy and feel comfortable in and around the pool. Students will learn elementary aquatic exercises and basic skills that lay the foundation for the development of primary swimming strokes. Tadpoles will work on the fundamentals of: holding one’s breath, air exchange, floating, kicking, and basic arm motions for both freestyle and backstroke.

Freestyle and Backstroke (Level 2): $130/Six Week Session
Goldfish students continue to work on the fundamentals of swimming technique. Each student learns about balance in the water and correct body position, as well as, understanding what their motions do to water and how their movements cause them to move through the water. Goldfish will work on: building coordination, strength, proper freestyle, backstroke kick, arm motions, streamline, and swimming on their own in both shallow water and deep water.

Stroke and Diving (Level 3): $130/Six Week Session
Swimmers in this class will continue to build on the fundamentals taught in the Goldfish class as well as incorporating endurance, breathing techniques, diving, and introducing them to breaststroke and butterfly. Swimmers will swim the length of the pool performing specific drills to increase their understanding, strength, and overall technique of each of the 4 strokes. Swimmers will begin each class using fins. As their ability increases, the duration of fin use will decrease until they are able to swim entirely without fins.

Per Six Week Session

Private Lessons $200 / Semi Private Swim Lessons: $360

Semi-private lessons (max of 2 swimmers in the same lesson) must be pre-arranged by participants. Lessons are participant-initiated and not organized by Lowell staff.

To participate in a semi-private lesson, students must be the same swim level. Swimmers must register and submit payment individually. Swimmers taking private lessons get first right of refusal for re-registering for slots each session. When a private lesson slot opens, a waiting list is used to fill available spaces.

Private and semi-private lessons are Friday evenings and Saturday morning/afternoon. All private lessons are now available for registration online. Participants do not need to contact the aquatics office first.
