AIM Survey
The National Association of Independent Schools created the Assessment of Inclusion and Multiculturalism (AIM) to help schools understand the climate of inclusion on their campuses, benchmark their progress, and advance their equity goals. Last month, Lowell launched an AIM assessment by hosting a series of discovery groups with members of the faculty, staff, administration, and Board of Trustees. These groups tackled myriad questions, including:
- How does the school support faculty in confronting stereotyping and bias in the classroom or school community?
- What resources (financial and otherwise) has the school allocated for its efforts to achieve greater diversity of trustees, administrators, faculty, and students?
- How does the school support diverse students in maintaining academic success and achieving a sense of being a fully accepted, affirmed, and empowered member of the school community?
Families will soon be invited to participate in similar discovery groups that will take place after Spring Break. In the meantime, everyone in the community has been invited to participate in a quantitative survey. All families and faculty and staff are encouraged to take the survey, as are alumni and their families, and current students in grades 5–8. More information about the survey will come next week.
