Lowell Qualifies for State MATHCOUNTS Competition

Lowell’s MATHCOUNTS team placed sixth out of 15 schools in the DC chapter competition at St. Anselm’s qualifying them for the state competition. Two additional students will also be moving on in the individual category. “These are really commendable finishes for the team and the individuals,” says their proud coach, Middle School math teacher David Sheridan.

Each year, MATHCOUNTS holds 4 competitions: school, chapter, state, and national. Each competition has four rounds that test for speed, accuracy, problem-solving skills, mathematical reasoning, and collaboration.

Those participating in the competition were Ollie Alfonso-Frank ’20, Abigail Bobrow ’20, Grayden Donaldson ’20, Mario Imbroscio ’20, Luc Pierre-Louis ’20, Dylan Weber ’20, Paolo Imbroscio ’21, Eva Rosenberg ’21, Dava Kendler ’22, and Adam Slagle ’22.

Out of 120 students, Abigail came in 12th overall, and Ollie was 22nd. Abigail and Ollie also teamed with Paolo and Eva to compete as Lowell's team. Their sixth-place finish placed Lowell in the top 40%. Luc and Grayden also qualified to move on to the state competition.
