Girls on the Run

The Girls on the Run season winds down this weekend with an official 5K Race on Sunday at Freedom Plaza. The program was a hit this year among girls in Primary School. Each Wednesday, the group met to build their running skills, hold discussions on issues the girls face, and foster positive relationships through team activities. Johanna says she appreciates that the program allows girls “to step out of their comfort zones and talk about those hard topics such as how to confront a friend who may be exclusive towards others or how to share when a friend hurts your feelings.” Through the season, the group became a safe place for the girls to open up and develop confidence. For Johanna, the best part of coaching the cohort was how much fun the group had and how the girls found ways to “truly be themselves.”
