Mission + Philosophy

Mission

Our mission is to create an inclusive community of lifelong learners in which each individual is valued and respected.

Philosophy

First and foremost, we support and honor the individuality of each child. We give children the time and space to grow and to discover their strengths, interests, and personal voice. A fundamental understanding of the developmental stages of cognitive, social, emotional, and physical growth informs how we build the foundation for highly motivated learners who possess a strong sense of self-worth and are equipped to be intellectually and emotionally self-reliant.

Secondly, we believe that hands-on, collaborative learning is essential to strengthening conceptual understanding, enhancing creativity, building problem-solving skills, and developing deeper analytical thinking capacities. Our leading-edge curriculum draws on learning experiences seamlessly integrated across multiple subjects and emphasizes question and discussion, and active engagement, over rote learning. We have high expectations of each student, but also provide appropriate scaffolding so that learning pathways and goals are understood. Our overall approach prepares students to be motivated achievers and creators.

Furthermore, Lowell is an intentionally diverse school. We not only attract families reflecting a wide range of cultures and traditions, but also see these differences as essential assets for learning and growth. We engage diversity in our curriculum and activities to prepare students for a future that demands multicultural understanding and collaboration, as well as a commitment to one’s local community and the world at large. This inclusiveness is another element of Lowell School that we believe contributes to intellectual growth and nurtures an inquisitive and open mind for life.

Our Motto

Strengthening Minds, Ensuring Equity, Honoring Individuality
