Primary School Math Specialist

Lowell School, a progressive school of approximately 335 students in Northwest Washington, DC, is currently seeking applicants for the position of Primary School Math Specialist.

The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in either Math Education or Elementary Education and will work with students and families in kindergarten through 5th grade by providing mathematics instruction within and outside the classroom that supports academic progress. The Math Specialist reports to the Primary School Director and collaborates with other members of the Student Support Team, assessing students as needed and collaborating with classroom teachers in planning, co-teaching, and/or coaching.

Strong candidates will also be familiar with and have a professional passion for social curriculum, experiential learning, social justice education, thematic teaching, differentiated instruction, and curriculum development.

The successful candidate:
  • Will have experience in and a passion for working with primary students with a range of learning styles and needs.
  • Will be experienced in using multi-sensory instruction as a teaching methodology.
  • Can facilitate and maintain appropriate communication with students, families, and faculty with regard to student progress in math.
  • Is able to analyze, interpret, and use math testing data and other information to create individual learning plans.
  • Can effectively integrate technology into instruction.
  • Possesses an enthusiasm and desire for all professional development and participates intentionally in instructional planning and team meetings.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • At least 3-5 years of experience teaching math to elementary school students.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, Chromebooks, and other appropriate classroom technological tools.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively.
  • Strong instructional and classroom management skills.
