Parkside Building, Berkeley Library

The LPC holds this joyful event in order to promote a love of reading, celebrate the important role of books in all of our lives, and support our school’s libraries.

Author Visit

To begin our Book Fair celebration, we have two vibrant and talented authors coming to Lowell School! Award-winning authors, Carole Boston Weatherford and her son, Jeffery Boston Weatherford, will be speaking to groups of Lowell students on May 10 and signing books. Pre-Order a Signed Book!

Carole’s books, in both poetry and prose, explore African-American history from a child's perspective and relate the past to new generations. Her works are often inspired by true events. She has received three Caldecott Honors, two NAACP Image Awards, an SCBWI Golden Kite Award, a Coretta Scott King Author Honor and many others. Jeffery is a children’s book illustrator and performance poet who contributed to the award-winning anthology We Rise We Resist We Raise Our Voices.

2019 Book Fair

List of 5 items.

  • How It Works

Explorers, Adventurers, Voyagers, and students in grades K–8 visit the Book Fair during the school day with their classes and make wish lists to take home. Students in grades 3-8 can bring up to $30.00 in order to purchase books.
  • Visit The Fair With Your Child

    Tuesday–Friday from 8:30 am–6:00 pm + Saturday from 9:00 am–12:00 pm

Come to browse and/or buy anytime. You are welcome to join your child’s class, bring your kids after school, or come on your own. Check out your children’s favorite books on the wish list they make during class visits and peruse summer reading books.
  • Celebrate Book Character Day

Students in K-5 are invited to share their love of reading by dressing as a favorite book character and sharing out during Gathering on Wednesday, May 15. Students are encouraged to name their chosen character and provide the book title or show the book to the community. Participation is optional. Dressing up should be simple--not like an elaborate Halloween costume (no masks please).
  • Donate

In addition to buying books for their children and individual classrooms, parents have the opportunity to contribute to each of the library collections by purchasing books that have been pre-selected by Christine, Annette, and Melissa. All proceeds from the Book Fair directly support Lowell’s libraries.
  • Volunteer

To ensure everything runs smoothly, we need parent volunteers to help children find books and create wish lists. Sign up to volunteer for the Book Fair!
