    TRACK & FIELD!

Open to all 4th, 5th and 6th grade students.

Join the Lowell School coed team and compete in a friendly atmosphere with other area schools, in connection with the 16th Street Interscholastic Athletic Conference (SIAC). This year the league consists of six schools, including Bridges Academy, the British School, Kingsbury Day, Jewish Primary Day School, Shepherd Elementary and West Elementary.

The first official practice will be held on Tuesday, April 8, from 3:30pm to 5pm. Students will meet in the gym and jog to Shepherd’s track for practice. Subsequent practices and meets will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays (with the exception of one meet).
There will be three track meets at Coolidge High School’s track, scheduled from 4pm to 5:30pm on the following dates: April 17, May 7 (subject to change), and May 22. The last meet will be the league championship, which is the official end of our season.

    COST:
$130.00 (Includes 11 practices, 3 meets and a team uniform to use).
Checks should be made out to Lowell School and given directly to Nathan after the first practice. Also, to prevent injuries, students need to wear proper running shoes.

    COACHES:
Once again, the beloved Ochieng Asugo will serve as the head coach for the team. Barbara Frank and Sherri Jones have also agreed to return as assistant coaches when they are available.

The track team operates separately from the After School Program (ASP). Students not in ASP will need to be picked up at the end of each practice (5pm). In the event of late pick-up, students will be ushered to ASP and parents/guardians will be billed a drop-in fee.

I encourage parents to stay for a 15 minutes coach/parent/player meeting at the end of the first practice to discuss logistics and expectations for the season.

We look forward to another great season and hope to see parents at some of the meets. In addition, we welcome parents who wish to get in shape alongside the students. If you have any questions, or would like to get involved as a volunteer, contact Nathan nsmith@lowellschool.org or Coach Ochieng ovashun@yahoo.com.

    Sincerely,

    Nathan Smith, PE Teacher &
    Ochieng Asugo, Head Coach

    After School Basketball Program
Here is a rollout of new sports opportunity for kids in grades 3-6. Well, it’s here and we are excited to be kicking off the Lowell’s after School Sports Program in January. First up in this new venture is basketball for students in grades 3-6. We’ve been working diligently to set up an experience for kids that will be instructional, competitive and FUN!
Here are some of the particulars of the program:
    • The basketball session will run from January 14th through February 22nd.
    • 3rd grade will be coached by Nathan Smith and will meet once a week for skill development, chalk talk and intra-squad
games. The team will meet Mondays from 3:30-5:00. The program for 3rd grade will run for 6 weeks and will culminate
in an exciting Skills Challenge and All-Star day on February 26th.
    • 4th-6th grades will be coached by David Vickers, Moira Regan, Cam McCord, and Andre’ Withers. This group will be divided into 4 teams and will also focus on skills and intra-squad games. They will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-5:00. Differently than the 3rd grade team(s), their season culminates with a tournament day on Friday the 29th of February. Seven teams from schools similar to Lowell have been invited to participate in a “Round Robin” style series of games on that day.
Because we know kids will be eager to get signed up, click "Read More" where you will find the registration form listed under the "Related Files" heading.
    Costs:
    $100 per student
For those families in need of ASP from 5-6pm there is a $12.00/per hour fee for this group of student athletes on the day
    (s) of their practice.
For questions and or further information, please contact me via email
(awithers@lowellschool.org) or by phone at 202-577-2015.
It’s going to be exciting! We hope you can come and join the fun!
