Dear
Parents and Guardians,
Although
the formal school day ends at 3:15 pm, the fun and learning do not! We offer a
variety of programs after school at Lowell including childcare, athletics, minicourses,
music, and aquatics. This letter will direct you to places where you can find
more information about these programs. In depth information about childcare can
be found in “Childcare at Lowell” in the Supplemental Documents gallery at
right.
After
School Program (ASP)
The
After School Program is available for children from the close of the school day
until 6:00 pm. The goal of ASP is to provide a safe, caring and enjoyable
atmosphere in which children can play, make choices, and hone social skills
under the guidance of caring adults. Each afternoon begins with outside
playtime followed by a nutritious snack. Participants have opportunities to
engage in a variety of indoor and outdoor games and activities that take
advantage of mixed-age groupings. Children who have homework are provided with
a quiet, supervised room in which to complete their assignments.
Park
After Dark (PAD)
Our
middle school after care program is called Park After Dark (PAD). After signing in, students have an opportunity to participate in various
activities and/or work on homework/projects.
• For
more information about ASP and PAD, please consult Childcare at Lowell.
• To
contract for a full year of care, fill out and return the ASP Contract.
Minicourses
Minicourses
are an extension of Lowell’s After School Program. There are five sessions that
run in tandem with the Aquatics calendar, each session offering six weeks of
specialty and enrichment classes. Several weeks before a session starts, a new catalog of choices is sent
to parents with the Lowell Loop (via
email) and is also posted in the Community Programs section of our website under
Minicourses.
Questions about ASP, PAD or minicourses?
Contact Dehejia Butler, After
School Programs Director.
Aquatics
Our Aquatics program offers swimming opportunities for the entire family. Classes
are offered year round and constitute a comprehensive swimming program for
children ages 3 to 12. Under the direction of Scott Bryant, Aquatics Director,
Lowell offers group lessons, private lessons, open swim, and a community swim
team—all of which are available to the community at large, as well as to Lowell
students. The Lowell School swim team is a private team and is open only to
Lowell students.
There
are five aquatics sessions throughout the school year, starting in September; schedule
and registration information is available in the Campus and Community section
of our website under Aquatics.
Information about Aquatics is also announced in the weekly email Loop several weeks before each new
session begins. The program has become very popular in the larger community.
Each session Lowell families are offered a priority registration period prior
to availability to the general public. All families are strongly encouraged to
register during the priority period, as lessons usually fill very quickly once
opened to the public. Classes are subject to limitations on group size that
cannot be negotiated.
Questions about Aquatics? Contact Scott Bryant, Aquatics Director.
After
School Athletics
We
offer a wide range of After School Athletics opportunities for Kindergarten
through Middle School students. For information about the fall, winter and
spring offerings visit the Athletics
page of the website. There is no charge for After School Athletics, but
students purchase the team t-shirt (K-3rd grade), generic team
uniform (4th-8th grade), and/or optional swim cap (K and up). This
allows students to keep these items and wear them multiple seasons.
Schedules for fall teams are posted on the website under Program > Athletics > Fall. To
sign-up for a team, parents should email Dave
Levy, Athletic Director.
Music
Lessons and Other Musical Opportunities
Private or small group music
lessons for a variety of instruments can be arranged, for a fee, at Lowell. In
addition we offer opportunities for children to join instrumental ensemble
groups. Please refer to the After
School Music page of the website for additional information.
If you have
questions about music lessons please email Mike Woods, After School Music
Program Coordinator.
Summer
Programs
Beginning
in mid-June we offer several summer programs for children ages 3-14. Look for
these offerings in the Campus and Community section of our website on the Summer
Programs page by early January.
