Mathematics
The K-6 mathematics program is guided by the Everyday Mathematics Program, originally designed by the University of Chicago's Department of Mathematics. Additionaly, teachers incorporate other resources to provide a rigorous, developmentally appropriate program focusing on the varying needs of children. The use of manipulatives and hands-on activities as well as real life applications enhance students' enjoyment and conceptual understanding and allow children to gain confidence, efficacy, and efficiency in mathematics.
Our program stresses the need for a firm foundation in Number and Operations, Algebra, Geometry, Measurement, and Data Analysis and Probability. The Everyday Mathematics program spirals through the content areas and makes connections within the various strands. Arithmetic skills are imbedded in all mathematical explorations. In addition, teachers integrate math activities into science and social studies thematic studies.
