Our Campus

Lowell is located on eight acres in Northwest Washington, DC, just off upper 16th Street near Rock Creek Park. Our tree-filled campus and proximity to the District's many resources make it an ideal educational setting for children of all ages, with ample space to play, splash, slide, run, draw, observe, and discover.
Lowell’s beautiful campus is a picturesque and peaceful home for all members of our community. At the same time, its natural setting provides abundant opportunities for outdoor learning, hands-on experimentation, and environmental observation. Students can investigate the life cycle of tadpoles in the stream that runs through our front field. They can track the many species of birds that also call our campus home. And, they can cross the street and take a hike in Rock Creek Park during their outdoor science classes.

Indoors, our facilities offer advanced resources and spaces that enable students to immerse themselves in many areas of study and a wide range of interests and activities. These include multiple maker spaces, science and engineering labs, art studios, woodshops, libraries, a spacious dance studio, a state-of-the-art black box theater, a gym, a heated indoor pool, a garden, and a green roof.

Lowell School Land Acknowledgment (revised 2023)

We would like to acknowledge and pay our deep respect to the Nacotchtank and Piscataway people, elders, and ancestors: past, present and future.

European colonists introduced disease to, engaged in warfare with, and took land by force from the Nacotchtank people, which led to the loss of their culture and people.

The Piscataway people were forced to relocate outside of the Anacostia watershed.

For centuries they have engaged in active resistance by celebrating and participating in cultural traditions. They continue to fight for recognition of promises made in treaties with the U.S. government.

We invite you to join us in recognition, respect, and gratitude for the Nacotchtank and Piscataway people, the first stewards of this land.

Acres of green space, highlighted by Kalmia Creek and adjacent to Rock Creek Park, provide our students with daily opportunities to learn about and in nature.

Starting in Pre-Primary School, all students bolster their STEM and STEAM education through access to maker spaces, science labs, and performance venues.

We believe that play is learning! All students enjoy breaks in the day to let their imaginations and bodies run free on our playgrounds and grassy fields.
