Campus & Directions

our campus.JPG Lowell School, founded in 1965, is located on an eight-acre campus on upper 16th Street near Rock Creek Park in Washington, DC. The school’s park-like setting and proximity to the District's many resources make it an ideal location for elementary education.

The campus’s four buildings are gracefully spread out amongst gardens and playing fields. The ample facilities and outdoor spaces include—in addition to grade-level classrooms and spacious Pre-Primary rooms—a pool, a gym, two creative movement spaces, playgrounds, fields, a technology lab, two science labs, a math lab, three libraries, a theater, two music rooms, a recording studio, a woodshop, four art workshops, and a dance studio. The school is completely wired and students use the latest technology as a tool for learning. Our campus and facilities provide students from age three through 6th grade with the perfect environment to pursue an interactive, rigorous, and integrated curriculum. The expansion to 8th grade will happen over two years, 2011 -2012, and will allow Lowell to take full advantage of the gracious Kalmia campus.

Classrooms, the gym, the pool, the dining room, the libraries and several administrative offices are in the Main Building, our largest building, which is situated centrally on campus. Parkside, which borders Rock Creek Park on 17th Street is the home of our Middle School and has a large science classroom and lab, Spanish classrooms, music rooms, a recording studio, a band room, and the stage that is the primary performance space for our 4th to 6th grade drama program.

Marjorie Webster House, off of Kalmia Road, contains our fully-equipped woodshop, conference space, and additional administrative offices, including the Admissions Office.
